Introduction:
- John 13:1-17
- There are moments in Scripture where the heart of Jesus is revealed with such clarity that it leaves us almost breathless. John 13:1-17 is one of those moments. On the night before His crucifixion, when every step He took was leading Him toward suffering; Jesus chose not to withdraw, not to demand comfort, not to seek attention. Instead, He knelt.
- In a quiet upper room, the King of the universe wrapped a towel around His waist and washed the dusty, calloused feet of His disciples. It was an act so unexpected, so upside-down, that it stunned the room into silence. This was not just kindness; it was love expressed through humility. It was service shaped by sacrifice. It was leadership defined by lowering oneself.
- John tells us that Jesus “loved them to the end;” a love that did not just speak but acted. A love that did not wait to be asked. A love that served even those who would betray, deny, and abandon Him.
- As we step into this passage, we are invited to see more than a lesson in manners or hospitality. We are invited to witness the very nature of God; a love that kneels, a love that cleanses, a love that calls us to do likewise.
- The question before us is simple but searching: If the Master served this way, how should His followers?
