The Sunrise: When Hope Breaks Through

Luke 24:1-12 and 1 Corinthians 15

Recap:

  • The King Who Comes in Humility (Palm Sunday: Luke 19:29-40)
  • The Cross Where Death Meets Life (Good Friday: Luke 23:32-49)
  • The Light that Finds Us (Sunrise Service: Luke 24:1-6)

Introduction:

  • Luke 24:1-12
  • There’s something almost sacred about sunrise. No matter how long the night has been, no matter how deep the darkness feels, the light returns. It does not rush. It does not panic. It simply rises; steady, certain and unstoppable.
  • On that first Easter morning, the world was still heavy with grief. The disciples were hiding. The women were walking toward a tomb they expected to be sealed. Hope felt buried beneath the weight of Friday’s sorrow. But God was already doing what God always does. Bringing light where darkness thought it had won.
  • Easter begins in the quiet moments before dawn, when the sky is still gray and the world still unsure. And then, like the first streak of gold on the horizon, the stone is rolled away. Death loses its grip. Hope breaks through.
  • Today, as we gather in the glow of his resurrection morning, we are invited to step into that sunrise ourselves. Whatever darkness we have carried, whatever night we have endured, the risen Christ meets us with the same promise: The light has come, and the darkness cannot overcome it. Let’s step into the dawn together and see what God has made new.
